Joseph “Joe” John Kaestner, Jr., age 62, died on Saturday, December 23, 2017. He was a son of the late Joseph John Kaestner, Sr., and Doris Gallager Kaestner of Charlotte. Joe was married to Sharon Malkin Kaestner of Charlotte.
Joe was born in Norwalk, CT and graduated from Norwalk High School in 1973. “JoeBear” was a captain of his high school hockey team, and later turned their coach. He spent the next 3 decades coaching and mentoring many players that would become his lifelong friends.
In 1999, Joe and his family moved to Cape Cod, MA where he became involved in public radio with WOMR in Provincetown. Music was always Joe’s great passion and he loved sharing it whenever he could.
Upon his move to Charlotte in 2006, Joe began playing racquetball at the Nautilus Fitness Center in Cornelius, NC. He spent 6 days a week here playing against so many new friends who meant a great deal to him.
In addition to Joe’s wife, Sharon and his mother, Doris, Joe is survived by a daughter, Caitlin Kaestner of Charlotte, two brothers, Thomas “Tom” Kaestner and his wife, Karen of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Robert “Bob” Kaestner and his wife, Susan of Charlotte and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until 11:00 am in the chapel of James Funeral Home, 10520 Arahova Drive, Huntersville, NC . A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, January 6, 2018, with Pastor Rick Harper officiating. There will be a reception held in the Community Room at James Funeral Home for those who attend.
