June L. Dougherty Spell, age 91, entered into Heaven’s gates on Wednesday, November 22, 2017. She was the only child of the late June Jewel Jones Dougherty and James Leon Dougherty. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris James Spell; her son, James Stephen Spell; and her daughter, Lauren D. Spell.
June was an astonishing mother and grandmother; devoting her life to her children and family. She was a caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her. She worked for many years at Publix and the Okeechobee Public Library. As an avid reader, she believed books could take you anywhere. She instilled a strong love of literature in her children and grandchildren. She was the pillar of faith and a warrior of prayer.
She leaves precious memories to her son, Keith M. Spell and his wife, Julie, of Mountain Home, Idaho; daughter, Merrie Thurman of Huntersville; daughter-in-law, Debra Spell of Huntersville; granddaughter, Larissa L. Spell-Berger and her husband, Andrew, of Mount Holly; grandson, Keith Michel and his wife, Rebecca of Morgan Hill, CA; granddaughter, Clare Kramer and her husband, Kyle, of Germany; grandson, Justin Wiley and his wife, Katie, of Mountain Home, Idaho; great granddaughter, Raina Jewell Berger; great granddaughters, Lorelli, Addilyn and Kenzie; great grandson, Oliver; and great grandsons, Cash and Austin.
A family gathering will be held in the spring in Okeechobee, Florida. Her family and friends will always be thankful for the gift that was her life. A special thanks to Novant Health Hospice of Charlotte, for their love, care and compassion.
