Margaret (Peggy) Marie Garth Bissette, Born December 1, 1921 in Hickory, NC and resident of The Pines at Davidson, NC died peacefully on April 5, 2017 after a lengthy illness.
Preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, David W. Bissette of Hickory, parents, Cornelius Voorhees (C.V.) and Greta Wezen Garth of Hickory, sisters Virginia Voorhees (V.V.) Garth Edwards of Hickory, and Greta Garth Gray of Winston-Salem.
She is survived by her sister Augusta Garth McDonald of Charlotte; children Garth Bissette of Canton, MS., Marie Bissette Cook and husband Larry of Boone, and David W. Bissette of Monroe; nieces and nephews, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Salem College with a degree in home economics, Traphagen School of Fashion Design in New York City, and Appalachian State University with a Master’s Degree in school counseling.
Her activities included the Water Color Society of NC, Salem College Alumnae, Presbyterian Church lifetime achievement award, 1968 Democratic candidate of NC House of Representatives, past president of NC League of Women Voters. She served as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines during WW II. She was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Hickory and summer resident of Rumple Memorial Presbyterian Church of Blowing Rock.
Her professional interests as a watercolorist included numerous exhibits. Hobbies involved contract bridge and travel, sketching landscapes and flowers, on domestic trips and abroad. She loved creating fashion, forays in the Blue Ridge Mountains with wildflower walks, Sunday evening picnics, music and dancing. She supported the Nature Conservancy, the World Wildlife Fund and the arts.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 1:30 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Hickory, NC with a reception at the church to follow.
