Mary Galloway, a resident of The Pines at Davidson, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with family by her side on August 15, 2017. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband George M. Galloway, Jr. in 2009 after 71 years of marriage. Her eldest son, John, also preceded her in death. Mary leaves to grieve her passing: son Peter S. Galloway and his wife Arlis of Cornelius, N.C., and their children Kristin Kelly Blinson and her husband Mark of Charlotte, N.C., Kary Rafizadeh Gregor and her husband Brian of Huntersville, N.C. and Peter M. Galloway of Portland, Maine; son George M. Galloway, III and his wife Andrea of Cove, Oregon, and sons Ian and Kyle, and John Galloway’s two children: David Galloway and his wife Braye of Pensacola, Florida and Karen Graf and her husband Paul of Kailu, Hawaii. Mary had nine great-grandchildren: Catherine and Taylor Kelly, Camron, Cole, and Liam Rafizadeh, Mary Elizabeth, Madison, and Kyle Galloway, and Sophia Graf. Mary was born in 1918 in Brooklyn, N.Y. as the only child of Alfred B. Codet and Mary Bogart Codet. She married George, the love of her life in l938 and they raised their three sons on Long Island, New York. After George retired from his career as Senior Vice President of Reuben H. Donnelley (a Dun & Bradstreet Company), they traveled extensively, lived in London for a year, and then settled on Meeting House Pond in East Orleans on Cape Cod. They enjoyed 34 years on Cape Cod together. Mary was a great lover of animals and had numerous dogs and cats through the years. She enjoyed collecting antiques, cooking and entertaining and was a perfect hostess for many dinner parties. She was an active member of
the D.A.R. and Women’s Clubs both on Long Island and Cape Cod. Mary and George were members of The Federated Church of Orleans, Eastward Ho Country Club, and Hyannis Yacht Club. Mary had resided at The Pines at Davidson in the Healthcare Unit since August 2010. She loved being near many of her extended family and enjoyed many visits from all of them. Grandson David Galloway and family often traveled from Florida to visit. The family is very grateful to the staff at The Pines at Davidson for the excellent and loving care they gave to Mary. A private memorial service will be held at a future date when the extended family can gather. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Resident Support Fund at The Pines at Davidson, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, N.C. 28036.
