Mildred McConnell Beard of Sharon Towers, the Presbyterian Home at Charlotte, NC passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017.
Mildred was born in Charlotte, July 23, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Floyd Lourin McConnell and Ola Auten McConnell.
A Memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 101 Colville Rd, Charlotte, NC 28207, on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Trevor Smith and Rev. Leslie Dibble officiating. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd, Charlotte, NC 28212 . The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the church.
Mildred was a graduate of Long Creek High School and Queens Business School. She worked for the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company in Charlotte and Atlanta, GA for 34 years.
She was married to the Rev. Dr. J. Arthur Beard who preceded her in 1991. They served churches in North and South Carolina coming back to Charlotte in 1970. Arthur served as associate Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church. During those years Mildred worked many positions in the church especially active in Circle 6 and Best Years Club. In 1982 she was honored with the Life Membership Award in Presbyterian Women and in 2007 she was presented the Averill and Haskey award of excellence at Sharon Towers for her volunteer work in the Treasure Chest.
Mildred had one brother, William T. “Bill” McConnell who preceded her in 2004. She is survived by one sister, Laura Ann Stroupe, one sister-in-law, Billie W. McConnell, two nieces, Fran Wynn and Amy Auten, two nephews, David W. Stroupe and William T. McConnell, Jr. She will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, Williams Memorial Presbyterian Church or Sharon Towers.
