Teri Lynne Mellen, 61, passed away peacefully at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, on July 29, 2017.
She was born in Levelland, Texas, first born, to June and John Mellen. Although she spent her formative years living overseas (Venuzuella and France), she always considered Texas her home. She graduated from Northern Valley Regional HS, in Old Tappan, NJ. She attended Bloomsburg State College, and then moved back to Texas to re-join the family. She obtained her Associated Degree in Business Administration. She worked for several companies in the Dallas area, prior to moving back to the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania where she worked for the Shawnee Development as a paralegal. She ultimately followed her family to Huntersville, NC in 1993. She worked as a paralegal for 2 firms in Charlotte; Smith & Ferrick, P.A. and Parker Poe Adams & Bernstein, LLP.
Her passion was her church, Huntersville United Methodist Church, where she was a member for nearly 25 years, and became the Administrative Assistant until her retirement. Even in retirement she was involved in many of the church’s ministries and Logos Circle. The church was her family, and she loved and welcomed all.
She travelled extensively with her family, through most of western Europe, more distant countries, Kenya, Egypt, and Indonesia, where her parents were residing, and ocean cruises of the Baltic Sea, the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Her love of travel, was not limited to foreign countries, she also traveled extensively throughout the US, starting with a wonderful motor home trip to the western US states with the family of 6 and dog, and no AC. This continued with other motor home trips through the northeastern states and coastal beaches.
Her mother, June Mellen, predeceased her. She is survived by her father, John Mellen; sisters Vicki Thorp (Paul), Julie Smith, and Kristi Munson, as well as nephews Paul Thorp (Laurinda), John Thorp (Monica), Connor Munson, and Christian Smith, and niece, Corinne Munson, and her beloved dogs, Shadow and Buddy.
Teri will be remembered as being a self starter, and a fighter, adapting to new challenges. She was friendly and developed many lasting loving relationships. She had a stubborn spirit, and never refused a challenge even through all her lifelong medical issues, her fighting words… “I am going to beat this and get stronger”. The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the many doctors, nurses, and medical staffs that have cared for her, and been supportive of her desires and wishes. We wish to give special thanks and gratitude to Drs. Gina Licause, Warden Woodard III, Joshua Patt and Jeffrey Nielsen.
A memorial honoring her life will be held at Huntersville United Methodist Church on Saturday August 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would request those who wish to honor her life, make contributions to Huntersville United Methodist Church, 14005 Stumptown Rd, Huntersville, NC. 28078 or the Levine & Dickson Hospice House of Huntersville, 11900 Vanstory Drive, Huntersville, N.C. 28078.
