Vernon Coolidge Hubbard, 87, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at Novant Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
He was born on April 21, 1930 in Mecklenburg County and was the son of the late Fred and Eula Russell Hubbard. He was a machinist with various race teams throughout his career, beginning with Holman Moody Racing in Charlotte and retiring after 22 years with Robert Yates Racing in Charlotte. He loved working in the yard and garden, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Washington Redskins.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Betty Hart Hubbard; three daughters, Cynthia Walker and husband Butch of Huntersville, Brenda Raborn and husband Lowell of Charlotte, Patricia Siniard and husband Mark of Charlotte; brother, Herman Hubbard and wife Alease of Charlotte; sister, Mozelle Busto and husband John of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Lois Hubbard of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren, Brandi Furr and husband Tim, Stefanie Lowery and husband Mark, Bryan Raborn and wife Allison, Jennifer Raborn, Gina, Seth and Briana Siniard; seven great-grandchildren, Luke and Bailey Furr, Jacob and Carson Lowery, Jayson Lesh, Brayden and April Overby. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Raborn, four brothers, Clyde, J.C., Olin and Frank Hubbard, and two sisters, Kathleen Stephens and Clara Williams.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at 2:00 PM, at Independence Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Marlin officiating. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Gardens in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service, 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, at the church.
